Yoga unites the body, mind, and spirit through yoga postures called asanas. They were developed hundreds of years ago, and each one is beneficial to a specific part of the body. Some of these positions will enhance flexibility, others are meant for balance, and still others will concentrate on strength. When you combine several yoga poses, you can work your entire body which improves your overall fitness, flexibility, and strength. But, it’s not just your body that benefits. If done correctly, yoga should help you handle stress, focus, and concentrate better.

Warm Ups and Cool Downs

The first Bikram yoga poses you’ll need to learn are the ones that you use at the start and end of your session. The warm-up poses that you select will vary based on the type of yoga program that you will be doing and where you will focus most of your positions. It is very important to take the time to do your warm-up yoga poses before beginning your regular yoga routine to properly prepare your muscles and joints for the work ahead and to help prevent injury. Complete your workout with some cool-down yoga poses. This will help to complete the work that you have done and help you to relax properly at the end of your workout.

Standing, Seated and Twisted Yoga Poses

There are several different kinds of yoga poses to choose from when planning your workout. Some of these are done in a standing position, which can help to align your body properly as they promote strength and flexibility. Standing advanced yoga poses really improve your posture. When in seated positions, you’ll be able to meditate and relax. There are also twisted yoga poses that you can do. By performing twisted yoga poses, you can strengthen your back muscles and abs, even aid in digestion. Twisted yoga poses must be done slowly and fluidly. You may hurt yourself if you make quick, jerking movements.

These aren’t the only yoga poses you can try. Seek help from a professional yoga instructor if you are just starting to learn yoga. Once you have a basic knowledge of how to perform the different yoga poses, you can begin to enjoy your yoga workouts from the privacy of your own home.
